an analogy
it was uphill – like life – but that
meant you got to come down for there is no
agony without ecstasy no pleasure without
some pain my dog pulled me
along, and I her, in moments of doubt or
when she took too long smelling everything
with moss, like good friends do when the
other wants to quit we got
near the end with the promise of the
secret beach that matt said
wasn’t so secret but a snippet of
heaven – oh glorious paradise -- when
my dog, she stopped short
would not cross that last
waterfall – in essence,
she saved me
from death.
